Welcome to Hlif Asgrimsdottir exhibition

Ísland-Iceland-IJsland Thursday July 23th at 17.00.

Sýningin stendur til 27. júlí og er opin frá kl. 14.00-18.00.

The Exhibition is open Thursday July 24 – Sunday July 27 from 2-6pm.

Hlíf Ásgrímsdóttir’s work is influenced by both environmental art and modernist monochrome paintings. Her work is between organized composition and emotional expression. Duchamp created the concept of the READYMADE and the selecting of found objects which were then declared as artwork. Hlíf digs up trash in the form of plastic sheets that has been left on the ground and is marked by the colors from the sand, grass and mud. Because of the texture, unexpected forms and colors, she hangs the plastic sheets up as READYMADE without framework and without painting it. Untouched. This is her way of portraying reality in which the plastic material is changing the sea and the earth. In the watercolors, the texture and many traces of transparent under-painting create shifting tones and make the contrast between light and dark. Applied in many layers, their landscape cause concentrated colors to fade away, giving an effect of abstract feeling. Also she writes the word, Iceland in various languages. A perspective which is neither parallel nor at right angles, the watercolors often incorporate both landscape and abstract world.

Wish you were here is a mail-art project by Icelandic painter Soffia Saemundsdottir and German multi-media artist Heike Liss.

Since January 2015 Saemundsdottir and Liss, who met while studying in California, have been making and sending postcards that explore their perceptions of landscape. For the duration of the exhibition the two artists will not only show the cards that they have already produced but  also set up a makeshift studio at the IPA Gallery in Reykjavik to continue to work on this open-ended venture.

The exhibition opens on thursday July 16th from 5-7 pm and is open from 2-6pm. after that until sunday July 19th. The IPA Gallery is at Tryggvagata 17 in Hafnarhusið by the harbour side.

Closing Time // Rasmus Danø // 01.06 – 14.06

Closing Time

An Exhibition by Rasmus Danø (dk) at IPA Gallery 01.06 – 14.06 2014

The exhibition Closing Time is a direct extension of Danø’s latest solo show Open Barrier at Norwegian Printmakers Gallery in Oslo, Norway. In the show Danø mainly points on the western culture’s double standard: We preach freedom and openness at the same time as the individual increasingly gets subjected to surveillance and attacks on its personal freedom. This he illuminates through visual cues and textual statements all with an open structure. One statement or picture grabs the next and creates a flow of analog information. The wiever becomes, through his or hers own personal experiences, hereby an pawn in a bigger game.

As a main motif Danø often use the Landscape to describe a sence of a place where everythingbegins or ends, and use it as metaphor and/or a symbol that binds the different expressions together. Thereby the Landscape has a double feature of his works, both as a specific landscape and as a reference to culture, mind and language.

Rasmus Danø(1974) works with a wide range of materials such as painting, sculpture, drawing and installations but in this exhibition he will only show graphic works. Danø lives and works in Copenhagen, Dk. Educated at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark 1995-2001. Artist webpage; http://www.siofc.com
