Sýningin Flæðarmál opnar laugardaginn 30. ágúst kl 16:00-19:00 í Grafíksalnum, Tryggvagötu 17
Opnunartími: Þriðjudag til sunnudags kl 13:00-18:00, sýningin mun standa til 14. september 2025.
Á sýningunni Flæðarmál eru verk, unnin með sandkornum sem mótuð eru í geometrísk form á pappír, ljósmyndum og lausum sandi ásamt teikningum og myndar sýningin 8 mismunandi samsett verk. Í heild byggja verkin á vísunum í raunverulegt landsvæði í Vesturbyggð, hinum gamla Rauðasandshreppi þar sem sandsýnunum var safnað á 8 mismunandi stöðum og unnin ný verk sérstaklega fyrir verkefnið Umhverfing 4, sem spannaði sýningar víðsvegar á Vestfjörðum og Vesturlandi sumarið 2022 en í því tóku þátt listamenn sem tengdir eru þeim landssvæðum.
Geometrísku formin, sem sandurinn myndar, eru sótt í forna arabíska leturlist, Kufic ferning (e.Kufic square) og tákna þau heiti staðanna þar sem sandinum var safnað.
Sú hugmynd að nota Kufic ferninginn tengist kynnum af teikningu svo kallaðra „heilagra rúmmynda“ (e.sacred geometry) í vinnustofudvöl í Marokkó 2017, sem fram fór undir handleiðslu þarlendra kennara. Hér um að ræða speglun, sem birtist í flæði áhrifa milli menningarheima og flæði hafsins milli strandsvæða.
Í arabískri menningu eru heilagar rúmmyndir undirstaða mynstra og skreytis í byggingum og handverki og er margra alda gömul hefð sem enn lifir.

FLOW Solo exhibition August 30 – September 14 2025 at Grafíksalurinn IPA, Tryggvagata 17, by the harbour. Opening is saturday 30.august at 16:00-19:00. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 1pm – 6pm.
In this exhibition, the artist presents eight differently composed works, each consisting of geometric images with grains of sand on paper, small lumps of loose sand, as well as photos and drawings. The works make reference to a real area in the southern Westfjords, where specimens of sand were collected from 8 separate locations and used to make new works specifically as a contribution to “Umhverfing 4”, a project which comprised several exhibitions and took place all over the Westfjords and West Iceland in the summer of 2022; the participating artists all had some connection to the region.
The images made of sand are modelled on an ancient style of Arabic script known as Kufic square. Here, they represent the names of the places from which the sand was collected. The idea to use “Kufic squares” was inspired by a workshop on sacred geometry which the artist attended in Morrocco in 2017 under the guidance of local teachers and craftsmen. This involves the notion of a flow of influences between cultures as well as the flow of currents from one coastal region to another.
In Arabic culture, Sacred Geometry is fundamental to architectural decoration, and arts and crafts and it is an age old tradition which still lives on.
